About this place
Choose between a half-portion and a whole eel rice bowl at Usuya. The lunch menu lists Unadon (half portion) and Jo-unadon (whole eel), both served with pickles and soup, making it easy to opt for a lighter meal or a more generous serving. The listed prices are 2,890 yen for the half portion and 5,000 yen for the whole eel. Another menu listing offers the same sizes with liver soup and pickles, at 3,390 yen and 5,790 yen respectively. One visitor praised the Jo-unadon for its crisp exterior and tender, fluffy centre, and said the sauce was not too sweet. That feedback may be useful if the grilling is a deciding factor.
Shiro-yaki, grilled eel served without the usual sauce, is another option. The lunch menu includes Shiro-yaki (Takumi), and one visitor said they enjoyed the dish at lunch. It is worth considering if you would like to try eel prepared differently from a rice bowl centred on the flavour of its sauce.
In the evening, eel is joined by a selection of small dishes. Options include eel zosui, a rice porridge, and eel tempura, while the Yanagawa-style eel hotpot is listed in a half size. The menu also features a burdock and prawn kakiage fritter; one visitor singled out the burdock tempura as a favourite. These dishes offer a way to build a meal around eel with a few additional plates.
At lunch, one visitor chose Umeshi-jū rather than an eel rice bowl, describing a tiered box meal with simmered dishes and seasonal items. It may appeal if you are looking for lunch at an eel restaurant but would prefer something different.
Reservations are recommended for both lunch and dinner. Near the Sanjo-kai Shopping Arcade, Usuya can also suit a solo meal, whether you are planning lunch or dinner with eel at its heart.
